Right Wing Accuses George Soros of Funding Black Lives Matter

Rumors have been swirling on the right regarding George Soros’ involvement with the Black Lives Matter movement. The movement was created in response to killings of Tamir Rice and Trayvon Martin by police for petty crimes. Black Lives Matter protesters have also been in the news lately protesting the recent killings in Baton Rouge, LA, and Minneapolis, MN during simple and routine traffic stops. Some on the right have accused Soros of helping start the Black Lives Matter movement and also helping fund it to the tune of $33 million.

These claims were stated recently on the O’Reilly Factor on FOX News. Washington Post columnist, Kelly Riddell, completed an investigation that she claims found that George Soros used different left-wing charitable organizations to fund the Black Lives Matter movement. Some have even gone as far as to theorize that Soros even came up with BLM himself and helped start it.

Detractors of this theory state that there is no way that George Soros could have funded such an organization. This is because the Black Lives Matter movement is so splintered. The grassroots movement doesn’t just occur in public outcries for social justice. It is protest marches, blogs, Facebook events, and other meet ups that organized in communities all over the country. There is no central hub where Black Lives Matter activists get their information and protesting strategy from.

Ken Zimmerman, the director of George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, also refutes the claims made against George Soros. He has revealed that the foundations gave away over $800 million to different charitable organizations last year. $33 million of that did go to left-wing charities that were focus on social justice and big picture social issues. He claims that it couldn’t have all gone to the Black Lives Matter movement because a sizable portion of it went to fight the war on drugs. He says at https://www.neweurope.eu/author/george-soros/ that the organizations information disproves any theories against George Soros.

Some theorize that the BLM movement was instigated both to thwart conservatives but also stop the Bernie Sanders campaign. Protesters have stopped two different events where Bernie Sanders was speaking during this election. They link this to George Soros because they say it is part of his plan to get Hillary Clinton elected as president. Soros aided in the efforts to raise money for Clinton’s Super PAC. Despite all this, there is no proof that Soros himself directly funded and organized the Black Lives Matter movement.
